Our Vocalists want to bless others Through Song
Not only do we teach our vocalists to sing, but how to help others.
Singing can bless others in so many different ways.
JDRF Juvenille Diabetes Research Foundation
This foundation is near and dear to our hearts because our vocal coach and co-director, Yaminah "Sings" Lewis, was diagnosed at the age of 9. JDRF was there from the beginning and has helped Yaminah with more than just her diabetes since she was diagnosed. Yaminah made a promise as a Girl Scout to always bring awareness to Type 1 Diabetes until there was a cure.

Helping Nicholas
Nicholas was born with PFFD and has an abnormal hip and short femur. This is rare and it is not known what causes it. He has had several surgeries including the last few in Florida with Dr Dror Paley at the Paley Limb-Lengthening Institute. He has a "Superhip" surgery to correct his hip once and for all and a few years ago had his first leg-lengthening. He went from a 12cm difference to just 3cm. His leg only grows about 80% as fast as the other leg so the discrepancy has grown again to several cm more. He is having his 2nd leg-lengthening this summer, again in Florida.
While in Florida Nicholas has the surgery of course, and then daily physical therapy as well as aqua therapy a few times a week. He will be in Florida for 3+ months. Last time it was 4 months with an external fixator, this time will be an internal fixator. The surgery is very expensive and therapy every day adds up quickly. The family had to continue to pay mortgages and bills here in Wilmington, and pay to live in Florida for a place to stay and groceries, gas, etc.
